We are currently looking for an experienced and passionate Medical Director to lead our Medical team in Pharmaceuticals (Vaccines Medical team is separate). Lead the Korean Medical teams working in Respiratory, CEP, HIV, Rare diseases, and Oncology-Immunology TAs through both direct reports (Medical affairs, MI/PV, PMS, Governance) and broader Medical team members (Vaccines Medical Affairs, Regulatory, Clinical Operations teams in Pharma and Vaccines). Around 70 people are currently working in this extended team
Represent Medical in the Leadership team and contribute beyond the Medical agenda
Ensure strong & effective Medical – Commercial collaboration, especially in seven fields: customer insights gathering, sharing customers questions, business planning, external expert (EE) engagement, use of speakers in promotional events, scientific communication & publication, and evidence planning
Drive Medical performance and monitor key metrics, in alignment with Global Medical objectives
Be accountable for budgets, headcounts, workload, and productivity of Medical staff
Build & deliver strategic & tactical medical plans that support GSK priorities. Key focus is on insights gathering from customers and education of EEs and governments bodies through data dissemination. In addition, there’s an expectation to drive further activities on evidence generation, by engaging with investigators to assess requests for support (investigator sponsored studies, collaborative studies) and champion agreed requests through GSK approval system
Build capabilities in Korea Medical team, through skills development and coaching. Key areas of focus are building capability in Oncology and Specialty care to support GSK innovation strategy and building MSL capabilities to enhance customer experience
Maintain highest standards when it comes to safety, pharmacovigilance and medical information re. GSK medicines
Drive internal & external stakeholders’ alignment, with other functions in Korea, and also within the Medical team in the Region and at Global level
Partner closely with Pharma Clinical operations team and Global R&D teams to ensure Korea is involved in relevant R&D activities at the right time, identify potential data gaps or unanswered questions raised by EEs, investigate and propose strategies to address data gaps. There’s an expectation to reinforce the collaboration between Korea, Japan and China in clinical operations
Partner closely with Regulatory Affairs to ensure regulatory strategy reflects evidence and provides sustainable competitive advantage
Ensure medical governance with Legal and Compliance and provide leadership in meeting the requirements of GSK Code of Practice and SOP’s in promotional or non-promotional setting. The roll-out of the new code of pratice this year is a critical activity
Being responsible for handling any therapy area related media issues in the medical or lay press in collaboration with Communication teams.
Medical Doctor – Korea registered (preferred) or any other countries
Country Medical Director in the Pharmaceutical industry, ideally with a mix of medical affairs and clinical research experience (preferred)
Working knowledge of any GSK therapeutic areas is highly advantageous (preferred)
Ability to lead & coach a Medical team and contribute to an executive team
Proven management experience and skills, especially in motivating, developing, and coaching teams managing individuals & team performance, and in sustaining employee engagement and well-being
Ability to work in a fast-moving environment with a blend of scientific expertise and business acumen, technical skills, and interpersonal skills, to discuss and decide about scientific or governance issues and follow through with a relentless focus on execution to deliver high-quality results
Self-motivated, flexible and goal-oriented
Inclusive team player, collaborative style, kick for communicating at all levels and engaging with people, esp. in a highly matrixed organization
Established communication and presentation skills
Proven project management capabilities, ability to lead and drive others

Committed to solve problems or challenges creatively, especially in the Medical-Commercial interface and in governance-related topics
Ability to guide employees on SOP’s and relevant regulatory requirements, by demonstrating agile and balanced decision-making – using evidence and applying judgement to balance pace and rigor, opportunities and risks
Aptitude to network, build strong relationships and demonstrate collaboration within GSK (across GSK Korea, Greater China and Intercontinental Region, Global R&D) and externally (government bodies, industry associations, other companies). Experience in engaging with Regional or Global teams will be appreciated (preferred).
