About the role
GSK is seeking an experienced and strategic Country Medical Director (CMD) to lead the Korea Medical organization and deliver medical solutions that improve patient outcomes and will be reporting to the APAC Medical Head. The CMD will set and execute country medical strategy across Vaccines, Respiratory, Specialty, HIV, and Oncology-Immunology, ensure medical excellence and compliance, and represent Medical within the Korea Leadership Team and APAC Medical Leadership. This role partners closely with Commercial, Regulatory, R&D, Legal & Compliance and external stakeholders to translate scientific evidence into policy, access and medical education.
Key responsibilities
Lead and oversee the Korea Medical organization, including Therapeutic Area Leads, Post-Marketing Surveillance, Pharmacovigilance, Medical Excellence, and Medical Review & Governance.
Develop and implement country medical strategy aligned with regional and global priorities.
Represent Medical in the Korea Leadership Team and APAC Medical Leadership Team; contribute to cross-functional country strategy and decision-making.
Ensure robust medical governance, patient safety, pharmacovigilance and materiovigilance for all marketed products and clinical trials under local responsibility.
Foster strong Medical–Commercial collaboration for customer insights, business planning, external expert engagement and medical education.
Drive evidence generation and assess/advocate investigator-sponsored and collaborative study requests through GSK¡¯s approval processes.
Build capabilities within the Medical team through coaching and development, with emphasis on Oncology, Specialty and MSL competencies.
Manage Medical budgets, headcount, workload and productivity; monitor performance against key medical KPIs.
Partner with Global R&D to ensure timely Korea involvement in R&D activities, identify data gaps, and propose strategies to address them; collaborate with regional markets (e.g., Japan, China) on clinical operations where relevant.
Align with Regulatory Affairs and CGA to ensure regulatory and access strategies reflect evidence and support sustainable competitive advantage.
Ensure adherence to GSK¡¯s Code of Practice, SOPs and applicable laws in both promotional and non-promotional activities; collaborate with Legal & Compliance and Communications to manage medical-related media issues.
Represent GSK in external medical networks, government bodies and industry associations to shape policy and the healthcare environment.
Qualifications
Medical Doctor (Korea registration preferred) or equivalent medical qualification from other countries.
Proven experience as a Country Medical Director or senior medical leader in the pharmaceutical industry, preferably with a blend of medical affairs and clinical research experience.
Knowledge of one or more GSK therapeutic areas is highly advantageous.
Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to coach, develop and motivate teams, manage performance and sustain employee engagement.
Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to operate effectively in a complex, matrixed organization.
Excellent communication, presentation and influencing skills.
Proven project management capability and experience leading cross-functional programs.
Aptitude for gathering insights from external experts and converting data into actionable medical strategy.
Fluent in Korean and English preferred.
Experience engaging with regional or global teams, government bodies and industry associations is preferred.
